  1. Personal Choice Reading • Get out your Personal Choice Reading (PCR) book and start in. We’ll have 15-20 minutes to read today. • Need a new book? Explore the class library and find one. Check out your book on the library clipboard.

  2. Did anyone finish a book since last class?

  3. Talk about books… Turn to a partner and share what you wrote about in your journal last night. You will turn in your journals on Friday for review. This is a standard. You should have at least 10 reading entries using a variety of symbols by then.

  4. Expanded Options Classes • If you are interested in taking Expanded Options classes at OCCC, you need to take the Compass test. Get a form from me and return it to Reyna in the Counseling Center by 10/13. • The test is October 14th at NHS West Lab from 1-3:20pm. • The school will pay for you to take it!

  5. SOCRATIC SEMINAR:RESULTS • Expect to be graded harder than you graded yourself. • Some thoughts on… • Marking up an article—must be more than just symbols, must “show your thinking” • Constructing questions—Many level 1 questions were actually level 2 • Your Own Evidence—the difference between evidence and opinion, telling me what you are going to do but not how it went.

  6. Raising your grade… • You can raise your grade as high as a 9 by revising/resubmitting within the next two weeks. (If you were in class yesterday but didn’t turn anything in, you can only raise your grade as high as a 7 as per the class grading policy.) • You must resubmit the entire packet and scoring guide with a note explaining what you revised. • If you’d like to raise your discussion participation grade, let me know. I’ll try to plan an intervention session for a small discussion next week.
