  1. ORELSE in the Radio : AGN and Starbursts in High-Redshift StructuresThe Observations of Redshift Evolution in Large Scale Environments Survey Lori Lubin (UCD) Chris Fassnacht (UCD) and Neal Miller (UMD)

  2. AEGIS COSMOS The ORELSE Survey Strategy • Search for LSS around 20 X-ray and optically selected clusters at 0.6 < z < 1.3 using deep, wide-field (30´) imaging in r´, i´, z´, J, K with: • LFC & WIRC - Palomar 5m • Suprime-Cam - Subaru 8m • WFCAM - UKIRT 4m • High-resolution, multi-object spectroscopy with DEIMOS • Multi-wavelength follow-up observations to study active galaxy population: • Optical - HST • X-ray - Chandra • Radio – VLA • MIR – Spitzer ORELSE Lubin et al. 2009

  3. Overdensity of Radio Sources Cl 1604 Supercluster at z = 0.9 • 563 radio sources detected • 143 with measured redshifts • 44 confirmed members

  4. Distribution of Radio Power in Five Structures at z = 0.7 – 1.0

  5. Evolution in the Radio Luminosity Luminosity evolution generally consistent with (1+z)3, consistent with other active galaxy populations Best et al. 2002

  6. Spatial Distribution of Radio Members X-ray-Selected Cluster at z = 0.82 Group-Group Merger at z = 0.84

  7. Spatial Distribution of Radio Members Evolution in the Supercluster Environment between z = 0.9 and 0.7?

  8. Colors of Radio Members Evolution in the Supercluster Environment between z = 0.9 and 0.7?

  9. Colors of Radio Members Evolution in the Supercluster Environment between z = 0.9 and 0.7?

  10. Radio Galaxy Morphologies High Radio Power Bulge dominated, largely early-type galaxies Low Radio Power Mix of morphologies

  11. “Quasar-Mode” versus “Radio-Mode”

  12. ORELSE in the Radio Goals • Evolution of cluster radio population from z = 0 to 1 • Dependence of radio active fraction and radio luminosity function on global cluster properties and environment • Comparison between SFRs measured from radio power and other techniques ([OII], mid-IR) • Evolutionary sequence connecting X-ray and radio AGN • Evolution in BCG properties • Effect of AGN on cluster ICM
