RICHES (Resources in Communities Helps Encourage Solutions) is a network of organizations across North Carolina dedicated to improving women’s health and reducing the racial and economic disparity in women’s health status. • The project goal: build the capacity of community-based organizations to address the health and health related needs of women in their communities. • Through the 2007-2008 pilot project, the RICHES Network asked for help to develop educational materials such as My Health Journal to help them work with the women they serve. • This web-based training offers the opportunity to connect with resources, community – based organizations and ideas you can use every day for a healthy life and a healthy family.

What to Expect Today Today’s Webinar will: • provide the basics of Facebook, its features and how they work. • cover simple, easy techniques to help you navigate through Facebook. • explain commonly used FacebookVocabulary, demonstrate where each are locatedand their purpose. • clarify how to set up work/personal privacy on facebook. • demonstrate different ways to make connections and link through Facebook (i.e. to other organizations and hold discussions, to find events, share photos, to resources and access documents etc.) • Allow opportunity to interact with the trainers, hear questions and responses of participating organizations.

Status updates • Facebook revolves around status updates. • First, find the “Share” bar at the top of any page. • Click on status and type a short statement in the box provided. • Then, hit the blue “Share” button. • To attach a photo, link or video, first click the appropriate icon, then enter your text in the box provided.

  14. Pages • There are 2 main pages on Facebook • My Home Page • My Profile • Both pages have the same layout • Top: Tool Bar • Bottom: Tool Bar • Middle: Three Columns

  15. Top Toolbar Put the cursor over the icons to find out what they are • Facebook: brings you back to the home page. • There will be a red comment bubble if you have new • Friends • Messages • Notifications

  17. Top Tool Bar • Home • Profile • Find Friends • Account: changes the way your account is set up, not what content you create • Edit account information • Privacy • Application settings

  20. Home Page The LEFT COLUMN has your: • Messages • Events • Friends • Applications (small program made for Facebook) • Ads and Pages

  21. Home Page The MIDDLE COLUMN is where you find your news feed: • Like • Comment • Share • Connect to other people’s profile

  22. Home Page The RIGHT COLUMN is populated automatically with: • Requests • Suggestions • Sponsors • Ads • Chat box remains at the bottom right of your page at all times. Works like an instant messenger.

  24. Profile The LEFT COLUMN has your: • Pictures • Information • Friends • Applications Other people can see this information but can not edit or contribute to it.

Profile The MIDDLE COLUMN contains information about you: • Tabs • Like chapters in a book. • Click to view information and edit from there. • News Feed • Status Bar: “What’s on your mind” • Can attach links, pictures and other media to a status update. Others can see this information and interact with it.

  28. Tagging • Tagging is a way to insert a link into your status update. • Rather than just talking about something, you are now giving others access to the page you are referring to.

  29. Tagging How to tag? • Use the “@” sign and begin typing the name of a friend, fan page or event. • Select the correct option from the drop down box which will enter the text as a hyperlink. Why tag? • Provides context for post. • Introduces your followers to potentially new pages. • Increases brands visibility.

  31. Status Bar Options to upload information straight to your wall. This will be published on your followers newsfeed located on their home page.

  32. Browse Box Use this method to upload photos, video or documents to your page or as a status update. Click on the white space in the box. Find the file you want to upload. Hit open. Hit upload. *This works for photos, videos, and documents on Facebook.

  33. Status Bar This is similar to what you will see on other web pages and it gives you the option of posting information to your wall from outside sites. You are then redirected here to publish your post.

  35. Photos Create a new photo album • Go to photos • + Create a photo album • Name, Location, Description • Upload entire albums or one photo at a time

  36. Photos Upload photos to an existing album • Go to your photos • Find an existing album and click edit • Use tabs • Always hit save • Publish when finished

  37. Applications • A Facebook application is a program that adds specific features to your Facebook site. • Some examples include: • A calendar that counts down to upcoming events • An interactive poll or survey • Why use applications? • Utilitarian • Entertainment

  38. Applications These are a few of the applications that our Facebook page uses. Often times, before you can participate in the program, you have to accept privacy terms. It is safe to do so. We will not use third party sites that create spam.

  39. Using Facebook How can you use our Facebook page? • Learn from and share our documents. • Find and post events. • View and share photos of events. • Post discussion topics and responses. • Find out more about NCHSF. • Access webinars and tutorials.

  41. Events • To create an event • Go to your home page • Select “Events” from the left column • Here you will find upcoming events • Click on • Next you will see this screen

  42. Discussion Discussion applications provide a public arena for open discussion. We will regularly post topics which we hope will start a conversation. Please visit our discussion tab and shape your opinions, questions and new ideas!
