  1. Static Routes For VMware ESXiVMkernel Ports Presented By: Opvizor http://www.opvizor.com/

  2. Introduction • In VMware environment it is impossible to run both VMware ESXi server and all virtual machine consoles (MKS), although ESXi has multiple VMkernel ports. • This case is regular for both the ESXi server hosted in a private environment and you have only a public IP address to initiate the configuration. • Refer the image to get a clear view about this process.

  3. Network Setup • Internet Gateway has the ip address 8.8.8.8  • ESXi Host has two vmkernel adapter: vmk0 8.8.8.4 and vmk1 192.168.20.100 • ESXi Default Gateway is configured to use 8.8.8.8 • LAN Subnet 192.168.20.0 / 24 • LAN Gateway to access other networks 192.168.20.1 • Client Admin subnet is 192.168.40.0 / 24

  4. ESXi Host Accessibility • If you use vmk0 8.8.8.4 to access ESXi host, then there will be no issue in network connection. • But the environment will create some connection issue when you try to access ESXi host using 192.168.20.100 from a system in situated 192.168.40.0, because there is no route to let 192.168.40.0 go back.

  5. Conclusion • Your Vmware environment can create more issues which includes memory ballooning issues, Vmware snapshots issues and more. • Opvizor will provide instant solutions for you with an experienced expert team. • http://www.opvizor.com/
