  2. Binge-eating disorder is characterized by recurrent binge-eating episodes during which a person feels a loss of control over his or her eating. [1] What Is It?

  3. Frequent episodes of uncontrollable binge eating. [2] • Feeling extremely distressed or upset during or after binge eating. [2] • Unlike bulimia, there are no regular attempts to “make up” for the binges through vomiting, fasting, or over-exercising. [2] Characteristics

  4. Binge eating leads to a wide variety of physical, emotional, and social problems. [2] • Over time, compulsive overeating usually leads to obesity. Obesity, in turn, causes numerous medical complications.[2] Type 2 diabetes Gallbladder disease High cholesterol High blood pressure Heart disease Certain types of cancer Osteoarthritis Joint and muscle pain Gastrointestinal problems Sleep apnea [2] What Harm Can It Do?

  5. Biological – Internal processes aren't functioning properly. (Hypothalamus) [2] • Social and cultural – shame or as a reward system. [2] • Psychological – Depression and trouble managing other emotions [2] Possible Causes

  6. Binge eating disorder affects about 3.5% of women and 2% of men over the course of a lifetime, with most developing the condition during adolescence or early adulthood. [3] • About one-third of individuals with binge eating disorder are males. [3] • About 65% of people with binge eating disorder are obese (20% overweight or more), with even more being generally overweight. [3] • The Total Enrollment at CSUSB in 2011 was: 6555 male, 10695 female. That's about 375 females and 131 males on campus who suffer from this disease. This numbers would probably be higher due to the extra pressures a student may have to deal with. Stats
