Why consider a Māori model of PR? • Growing global awareness of indigenous cultures • Fragmentation of markets calls for innovation and differentiation • Minority cultures have been suppressed • These cultures may have some refreshing approaches and insights • Need to break the molds of corporate PR with their embedded cultural imperialism

Europeans have defined their model PR in Europevan Ruler, Vercic, Butschi, Flodin Journal of Public Relations Research, 2004, 16:1 • PR is reflective – analyzing social trends • PR is managerial – executing organizational strategies • PR is operational – executes communication plans • PR is educational – increases organizational capacity to be responsive to societal trends
