  3. Repentance Is Not… • Mere sorrow – Matt. 27:3-5; Acts 1:24; Mark 6:14-29. • A promise to quit sinning – Matt. 3:8-9 • Guilty fear – James 2:19, devils tremble. • Attempting to cover sin – Prov. 28:13 • “Going forward” even if it includes baptism.

  4. Repentance Is… • A change of heart and life brought about by godly sorrow – 2 Cor. 7:10; Matt. 12:41 (Jonah 3:10). • Consider Matt. 21:28-30 • Acts 5:30-31; 11:18; 2 Peter 3:9

  5. What Prompts Repentance? • Godly sorrow – 2 Cor. 7:10, a sorrow with God in it. Psalm 51:17; 38:18 • The goodness of God – Romans 2:4 • Contemplating judgment – Acts 17:30-31; 2 Cor. 5:9-11 • “…today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts…” (Heb. 3:15).
