  3. Serenity Infant Care Homes is a non-profit, faith-based foster care and adoption agency that specializes in programming for abused, abandoned, and neglected children. Their mission is to break the cycle of child abuse through early intervention programs for child victims and their biological families. About Serenity…

  4. Founders and History Serenity was founded by three social workers in 1990 and was initially focused on foster care. The founders are: Jennifer Jones- Choctaw, Linda Kontis, and Sharon Hobson. Their inspirational verse is Proverbs 14:30 which states, “a heart at peace gives life to the body.” In 2006 Serenity became licensed as an adoption agency to assist in placing kids in permanent homes when reunification with birth families is not possible.

  5. Who is served? -Serenity has served over 1500 children and families since 1990. -Serenity specializes in babies and toddlers but children from birth to age 18 can be served. -Multiple cultures and ethnicities are represented by the children and foster families served at Serenity. -Pregnant and parenting teens also can receive various services and resources through Serenity.

  6. How are clients referred to Serenity? *Children are placed with Serenity through Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties’ DCFS *Serenity gets a call from DCFS when a child is detained and they are seeking placement. The calls can come at any time of day or night. *AfterSerenityreceives the call, the placement committee evaluates the current foster families to determine the best place for the child. Once that is determined, a Serenity worker calls the foster family to see if they are available and willing to take in the child.

  7. Social Workers at Serenity There are many Social Workers at Serenity and their roles vary. Mostly the social workers manage cases by visiting the children in their foster homes, communicating with the foster families about the kids, monitoring visits between the kids and their birth families, and keeping the county social workers informed on anything significant. Not all of the workers have their MSW, some have their B.A. degrees and some workers are MFTI’s.

  8. Additional Programs/Services -Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) -Children As Mothers Program (CAMP) -Mental Health Services for the community
