GOAL 2: ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION • 2011-2012 invested $842mil in education • Aid program focus: • Improve function of education systems to ensure more kids can finish and progress to a higher level • Improve relevance and quality of education
GOAL 3: PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN Australian support through UN helped 5288 women start a business Australia helped more children attend school – particularly girls. In Papua New Guinea, Australia helped train women to take on more leadership roles in businesses, schools etc.
GOAL 4: REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY Helped deliver child vaccinations in developing countries Provides support for child health Australia funded a project to teach families low coast organic farming methods to improve child nutrition.
GOAL 5: IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH Supported the training of birth attendants and mid wives Participated in programs to improve health services for rural women E.g. Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia
GOAL 6: COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES • Assisting partner countries achieve access to prevention, treatments, care and support. • Focus on: • Increasing prevention • Optimising role of health services • Strengthening coordination and capacity for response • Reviewing legal and policy frameworks for effective response • Building evidence base for effective response • Demonstrating leadership
GOAL 7: ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY • Participation in the Kyoto Protocol and Copenhagen Accord • Extending budget to provide funding for and participating in different initiatives such as: • International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative • International Forest Carbon Initiative • Coral Triangle Initiative
