  4. Sam Houston • 1st President of the Republic of Texas • 3rd President of the Republic of Texas • United States Senator • 7th Governor of Texas • Supported annexation into the United States • Wanted capitol in Houston

  5. Mirabeau Lamar • 2nd President of the Republic of Texas • Wanted capitol in Austin • Did not want to be annexed into the United States • Called the “Father of Texas Education”

  6. Anson Jones • 4th and final President of the Republic of Texas • During the Texas Revolution, he served as a surgeon
