Full Service Community Schools Act • How: Amends the ESEA to provide 5-year grants to LEAs to implement full-service community schools • How much: “such sums as necessary for Fiscal Years 2012 through 2016” • Who: • Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) • CCS, AFT, AASA, First Focus, NEA, PEN, UWW, Save the Children, many other Coalition partners

DIPLOMA Act • What: Developing Innovative Partnerships and Learning Opportunities that Motivate Achievement Act • How: Renewable 5-year grants to states to award local sub-grants (to LEAs) to provide wraparound services • How Much: Up to $2.5 billion annually • Who: • Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA), Sens. Bernard Sanders (I-VT), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) • 37 organizations, including: CCS, AASA, First Focus, NASBHC, AFT, PEN, UWW, Forum for Youth Investment, ASCD, NASSP

  4. Supporting Community Schools Act • How: Would include in reauthorized ESEA community school as intervention model for schools in need of improvement, allow use of Title I funds for coordinator • How much: No new allocation, would channel some Title I money to community schools • Who: • Sens. Sanders (I-VT) and Mikulski (D-MD) • 24 organizations, including CCS, AASA, AFT, ASCD, First Focus, NSBA, PEN, United Way Worldwide

  5. Promise Neighborhoods • How:Provides funding independently or as part of reauthorized ESEA for planning and implementation of Promise Neighborhoods • How much: President Obama’s proposed 2012 budget requests $150 million. The Senate LHHS Committee has appropriated $60 million • Who: • Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) sponsored PN Act, incorporated language into proposed ESEA reauthorization.   • Reps. Payne (D-NJ), Honda (D-CA) and Scott (D-VA) sponsored PN Act • Over 500 organizations, including Harlem Children’s Zone, PolicyLink, The Center for the Study of Social Policy, CCS, Nurse Family Partnership, NASBHC, UNCA & UWW have joined in support of this legislation

  6. RTTT Early Learning Challenge • What: New funding for ECE through 2nd round RTTT • How: Grants to states to implement comprehensive quality enhancements to their ECE systems • How Much: $500 million (out of $700 million total) • Who: • Arne Duncan (DOE), President Obama • A range of early childhood advocacy groups
