  1. Why Indonesian Earthquakes and Volcanoes Happen By Vanessa,Maddy and Grant

  2. Earthquakes • Here is a pic after an Indonesian earthquake.

  3. Information About Earthquakes. • On 30 September and on 1 October, earthquakes rocked West Sumatra, Indonesia, leaving tens of thousands in search of humanitarian assistance. The earthquakes ,destroyed many peoples homes and peoples lives, and they are at risk.

  4. How do Earthquakes happen. • Simply put, the shaking of the earth caused by a sudden shifting of rocks below its surface, is called an earthquake. The earths crust or outermost layer, is not made of one single piece of solid rock. It is actually made up of independent sheets of rocks called tectonic plates.

  5. Volcanoes • Batur Volcano is located in north east Bali. Batur is one of the most impressive calderas in the world. It is 13.8 km by 10 km in size. Within the caldera is Batur volcano and a lake. The volcano rises 700 m above the surrounding terrain, and consists of a main cone with three summit craters flanked by a small parasitic cone (Butus) on its SW slope.

  7. How do Volcanoes happen. • Volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are pulled apart or come together. A mid-oceanic ridge, for example the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has examples of volcanoes caused by "divergent tectonic plates" pulling apart; the Pacific Ring of Fire has examples of volcanoes caused by "convergent tectonic plates" coming together. By contrast, volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust (called "non-hotspot intraplate volcanism"), such as in the African Rift Valley, the Wells Gray-Clearwater Volcanic Field and the Rio Grande Rift in North America and the European Rhine Graben with its Eiffel volcanoes. About 60 volcanoes erupt in a year!
