  2. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) • Three Years in length (nine semesters, including summers) • 99 semester hours • Begin in June of each year • Graduate in May • Example: Students entering in June 2013 will graduate in May 2016

  3. Admission Requirements: • Complete a bachelor’s degree • 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours towards a degree • 3.0 GPA in all prerequisite course requirements • 3.0 GPA in all science courses (biology, chemistry, and physics) • Combined verbal/quantitative score of 295 or higher with a minimum 150 verbal and 145 quantitative on the GRE (based on the new scoring) • Complete volunteer, observation, or employment hours in a variety of physical therapy settings.

  4. What major is required? • There is not a specific required/recommended degree to be eligible to apply. • Choose something that is of interest to you. • No specific degree is preferred over another. We look at admission requirements only.

  5. 3.0 GPA in Last 60 hours: • Once you graduate, the last 60 hours cannot be improved. • Bachelor’s degree should be something in which you will have a successful “last 60 hours.” • If your last 60 hours GPA is below a 3.0, you may want to consider a second degree or other graduate degree.

  6. Prerequisite Courses: • All courses are required. • There is no “time-limit” on how long the courses will be accepted, but you will be responsible for knowing the content. • 3.0 GPA is the minimum for these courses. • Courses must be completed prior to entering the program.

  7. 3.0 GPA in Science Courses: • All Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses are counted in the average, even if not a PT prerequisite course. • DO NOT MAJOR IN A SCIENCE IF YOU ARE NOT A STRONG SCIENCE STUDENT! --This could actually hurt your chances of being accepted into the program.

  8. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) • Minimum Combined verbal/quantitative score of 295 or higher with a minimum 150 verbal and 145 quantitative on the GRE (based on the new scoring). • GRE score must be on file when you apply to the graduate college and the PT program. • Information about the GRE exam (registration, location, etc.) www.ets.org/gre

  9. Volunteer/Observation Hours: • There is no minimum number of hours– should be enough to gain a good understanding of each PT setting. • We recommend a minimum of 4-6 different types of PT settings. • The hours can be paid or non-paid.

  10. Application Procedures: • Deadline: --Complete the Graduate College and the Physical Therapy department applications by October 15th, for admission for the following June. • A separate application is required for the Graduate College and the PT department. Both applications are submitted online through the Graduate College.

  11. Application Procedures (cont.): • All documents must be received by the Graduate College by 5:00 PM on October 15th. • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed for admission. • 3 reference forms will be required: --One form from a professor. --Two forms from Physical Therapists (where you have done observation hours.) • Visit PT website for further details. http://www.health.txstate.edu/pt/admissions/application-instructions.html

  12. Advising Process: • Contact the advisor for your undergraduate major to be advised for undergraduate degree requirements. • Visit the PT website for information relating to PT requirements and/or admission. • Additional questions may be directed to: --Laura Daniels: ld04@txstate.edu --Alyssa Ellis: ae21@txstate.edu • Questions about course equivalency should be emailed to Ms. Daniels or Ms. Ellis. Please include the name of the institution where the course was completed and a course description from the course catalog.
