  21. Quiz Review: CFY Case Study 6) Based on the information available in CFY Case Study, develop a problem statement for CFY. • Perspective of customer • Creates a sense of urgency • Impact to stakeholders with opportunity cost

  22. “Based in part upon inefficient processes, antiquated technology and a significant economic recession, Community for Youth is facing a reduction of income to perhaps 50% of historical levels. Without any intervention, CFY will exhaust all resources and be forced to cease operations in approximately 12 weeks. The inefficient processes---including organizing mission-critical data on paper-based forms as well as communicating with donors only once a year---are costing CFY in both increased annual expenses of close to $50,000 in addition to reduced revenue of perhaps $250,000 each year. The antiquated technology---a collection of 12 to 15 year-old computers running Windows 95 that struggle to operate simple applications such as spreadsheets---is preventing staff from being more productive. Simple tasks such as assembling a list of students who have attended a recent event not only take 20% of the staff effort, most of the tasks are repetitive or redundant.

  23. The impact of poor processes and obsolete technology is felt primarily in the service of mentoring high-risk students; for every $100 lost or not donated, 1 less student is mentored per week. The long-term cost of losing an organization like CFY---which produces a 92% graduation rate among its community in a district that has a 33% drop-out average---is immeasurable. Action must be undertaken immediately to secure the continuation of a treasured non-profit with a 25-year history of impacting lives of some of our most-vulnerable students”
