JCHS 2012- 2013 Graduation Requirements • 4 English • 4 Math • 4 Science • Lifetime Wellness • PE & Personal Finance • World History or World Geography • US History • Government & Economics (or Marketing/Bus. Legal Systems) • 2 Foreign Language • Focused Program of study • 28 credits to graduate

  6. Know Where You Are Going? Senior Checks…. • Completed in August • Senior Interviews in progress now • Check senior records • PLATO work must be reported to counselors • Failures will be required to to stay after school & finish • Time for time • Saturday School November 10

What you can/should be currently doing…. • Maintain good grades in challenging courses • Study for, take, and retake the ACT • Start making plans for after high school • Have a plan A and a plan B • Submit applications now • Watch for deadlines • Ask questions and do research Apply to schools NOW!! Take & retake the ACT!! (more on this later)

  9. Know Where You Are Going? Post Secondary Options for seniors…. Public Universities Larger institutions with specialized degrees in various areas such as business, pre-med, education, etc. They offer 2-year and 4-year degree programs.

  10. Know Where You Are Going? Post Secondary Options for seniors…. Private Colleges Private institutions that are generally smaller in size than universities. They offer 4-year degree programs as well as other 2-year Associate Degrees.

  11. Know Where You Are Going? Post Secondary Options for seniors…. Community College Small, local institutions that offer 2-year Associate Degree programs as well as 2-year transfer programs for students who desire a 4-year degree.

Applying for scholarships… • You are only guaranteed not to receive a scholarship if you do not apply! • Apply in pen…not pencil • Transcript request forms • First 3 are free - $1 each after that • Turn in request forms to secretary • Mail VHCC forms for dual enrollment • Recommendation letters • Essays • Website, posters, announcements, Facebook • East Tennessee Foundation Scholarship released on December 3, 2012. APPLY! Largest local scholarship.
