  3. What’s the Big Picture? Why do we need to share data? • Data sharing for regional watershed management and methods • Data need to be more current, available, and easy to find • Data need to be the state’s • Data need to be understandable • Data need to be in a common defined format to reduce the cost of data collection and better facilitate repeatability

  5. ‘Big picture’ Goal? • Phase 1 - Better enable the states to share water planning, water use and allocation data with each other, the public and federal agencies. • Phase 2 - Improve the sharing of federal data with the states, to assist their planning efforts

  6. On A smaller scale… • Try and get a handle on variability • Develop a common data schema (derived/time-series) • Show how the data exchange will work • Encourage the adoption of a schema for time-series, hydrologic measurement data

Things we’ve learned so far… We’ve captured a number of needed changes to our XML Schema (see booklets) Summary data are mostly only in PDF documents, rarely in databases So far we have one example of a state agency with summary-level data on their website. http://www.owrb.ok.gov/maps/server/wims.php
