  2. Where is RYG?

  3. RYG – About us • A brief history – Originally the village primary school, RYG first became an outdoor centre in the early 70’s . The centre was then run by Mid Glamorgan L.E.A. before being taken on by The Rhos-Y-Gwaliau Outdoor Education Trust. This Trust worked in conjunction with Berkshire unitary authorities. 8 years ago the centre faced closure and was taken on by staff members to be run as a private business. RYG still supports many Berkshire schools and continues to maintain a very strong educational ethos.

  4. Safety • Rhos y Gwaliau has a proven safety record over more than 30 years. • It has been inspected and approved by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). • It employs well qualified, highly motivated teachers and instructors. • RYG holds the “Gold Standard” quality badge in outdoor education.

  5. Our Strengths • Staff - Our instructors are experienced outdoor practitioners and qualified to a high standard. For them it is a full time career choice and a passion. Children visiting the centre are able to work with the same instructor throughout the course, building a rapport with them. We find this makes teaching more purposeful as activities can be tailored, and challenge or support given more effectively. We see amazing changes in children throughout their stay which make us extremely proud. • Quality – RYG has recently been awarded The “Gold Standard” in outdoor Education. This quality badge is awarded by the AHOEC (Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres) as recognition, not only of safety but of the highest quality instruction and provision in terms of the experience offered. This award also encompasses the “Learning Outside the Classroom” quality badge and the “Adventuremark”.

  6. …and More • Off site activities in the great outdoors • Opportunities for children to develop many skills including: independence, self esteem and being part of a team • Children are encouraged to challenge themselves and try new things. Have a go! • We celebrate success..sometimes the smallest steps are the biggest! • Opportunities for children to review their learning and experiences • Due to its small size only one school group is on site at a time.
