  6. The term “ALL” can be used in a limited sense - 1 Corinthians 9:22 (NKJV) 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  7. The term “ALL” can be used in a limited sense – • If the “ALL things” in this passage is unlimited – Then: • False teachers “work together for good” • Persecutors “work together for good” • Satan and his angels “work together for good” • We need not be concerned about anything - for NOTHING works against us - including sin and the devil W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  8. The term “ALL” can be used in a limited sense – • If the “ALL things” in this passage is unlimited – Then: • “All Things” in this passage refers to God’s provisions. • The Law of The Spirit – (2) • God sent His Son condemning sin in the flesh – (3) • The indwelling of the Spirit through His teachings – (9,11,14,16) • God’s promises upon which we base our HOPE – (18-25) • The Holy Spirit intercedes for us – (26,27) W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  9. Not promised temporal rewards • Not the suffering and trials in and of themselves . . . • These brethren were being persecuted – (17,18,36) • It is true that suffering CAN produce patience, (Jam 1:1-5), but patience is accomplished through God’s provisions & faith • These persecutions were brought about by Satan’s attempt to destroy God’s people - therefore not GOOD things. W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  10. Not promised temporal rewards • Not the suffering and trials in and of themselves . . . • The end result of the things which work together – i.e. glorification • God provides what we need to turn Satan’s devices into spiritually strengthening weight sets – but without GOD’S help?? • If we suffer with Him we will be glorified together with Him (17) • Compares the suffering with the “glory which shall be reveled in us” - (18) • What is predestined?? (29,30) W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  11. Romans 8:28-30 (NKJV) 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What? Glorification W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  12. The obedient - 8:1,2 • Those who SET their mind on the things of the Spirit – 8:5-7 • Those who mortify the deeds of the body – 8:13 • Those who are led by the Spirit – 8:14 • Those who suffer with Him – 8:17 • Those who persevere – 8:17 • The disobedient - 8:1,2 • Those who SET their mind on the flesh (i.e., those who do NOT mortify the deeds of the body) will DIE - 8:5-7,13 • Those who walk in the flesh – Rom. 8:1; Gal 5:16-21; 2 Tim 2:11-13 • The Christian who has fallen from grace – Gal 5:4 W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

Romans 8:29-30 (NKJV) 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  15. 1 Cor. 6:9-10 (NKJV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. . . . [They] will [NOT] inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21 (NKJV) Now the works of the flesh are evident, . . . of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. • Fornicators, • Idolaters, • Adulterers, • Homosexuals, • Sodomites, • Thieves, • Covetous, • Drunkards, • Revilers, • Extortioners, • Unclean, • Lewdness, • Sorcery, • Hatred, • Contentions, • Jealousies, • Outbursts Of Wrath, • Selfish Ambitions, • Dissensions, • Heresies, • Envy, • Murders, • Revelries, • And The Like; W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  17. “Do A Christian's Sins Damn His Soul?“ "We take the position that a Christian's sins do not damn his soul. The way a Christian lives, what he says, his character, his conduct, or his attitude toward other people have nothing whatsoever to do with the salvation of his soul…..all the sins a Christian may commit from idolatry to murder would not put his soul in any danger!" W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  18. Paul is writing to Christians - • “If” – expresses conditionality • We can choose between life and death – Deut 30:19; Rom 6:16-18 Romans 8:12-13 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  19. What – • God foreknew and predestined that a particular class of people (“many brethren”) would be glorified, i.e. conformed to the image of the resurrected Christ! • Who – • The class of people who love God, (John 14:15). • The class of people called out of the world, (i.e. the church – Acts 2:47; 2 Thes 1:7-9; 2:14). • Glorification is conditional! (1 Cor. 15:23; Gal 5:24) All those glorified will have been justified! (necessary to glorification) All those justified will have been called - (necessary to justification) Romans 10:14-17 W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  20. Due to God’s faithfulness Christians have assurance that their perseverance through trials will result in glorification - Rom 8:17,18,25,28 • There is no external force that can separate the faithful Christian from God! – Rom 8:35-39; John 10:27-29 W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  21. Romans 8:35-39 (NKJV) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long;We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. We must keep ourselves in the love of Christ - John 15:9,10; Jude 1:21 W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007

  22. W. 65th St church of Christ - January 14, 2007
