  1. Factoring Trinomials Lesson 8-4: Quadratic Equations: ax2 + bx + c = 0 SOL A.2c

  2. Objectives • Factor trinomials of the form:ax2 + bx + c = 0. • Solve equations of the form: ax2 + bx + c = 0.

  3. Vocabulary! • Prime Polynomial: • A polynomial that cannot be written as a product of two polynomials with integral coefficients.

  4. Factoring ax2 + bx + c

  5. Factor ax2 + bx + c • Factor each trinomial. • 7x2 + 29x + 4 • 3x2 + 15x + 18 • 5x2 + 13x + 6 • 6x2 + 22x - 8

  6. Factor ax2– bx + c • Factor each trinomial. • 3x2 – 17x + 20 • 2n2 – n – 1 • 10y2 – 35y + 30

  7. Prime Polynomial • Factor the polynomial, if possible. If the polynomial cannot be factored using integers, write prime. • 4x2 – 3x + 5 • 4r2 – r + 7 • 2x2 + 3x – 5
