  3. British Empire If "the empire on which the sun never sets” (1) is mentioned, the British Empire is being spoken about – the largest one in human history. Even after those countries gained independence, the impact of the previous British domination is still evident to this day.

  4. The British Empire was formed from the “English overseas possessions”. In other words – the British Empire was formed from countries conquered by force, acquired by political conspiracy or through trading transactions with Spain and France between the 16th and 18th centuries.

  6. Commonwealth of Nations As colonies slowly gained their independence, especially after WWII, modern attitudes were required and that situation started a process of „decolonization“. The procedure was finalized by the political transfer of Hong Kong to China in 1997. Many of the former British colonies joined with the newly established British Commonwealth that was officially brought into being in 1931. Later, this association was renamed the Commonwealth of Nations. . The Commonwealth of Nations is a free association of 53 independent countries.
