The People's Network initiative aims to connect over 4,300 public libraries to the information superhighway by 2002, fostering a modern learning environment through ICT learning centres. With significant funding, including £100m for hardware and £20m for staff training, this initiative will create over 30,000 public access terminals. The three-year development plan focuses on consultation, service implementation, and sustainable management. By establishing virtual libraries accessible 24/7, the initiative supports the transition of public libraries into the digital age while expanding resources relevant to museums and archives.
