  4. UNIV401 & 402 SpringSchedule • MARCH 13 & 14 • Formatting and Defending a Thesis • Choose at least one session and attend, if you did not already attend in the fall! (Required) • MARCH 18-29 • Research group presentations (Required) • Third readers choose a date for students to present that is most convenient for the group • Times / Locations posted on Groups List – TBD • APRIL 12 • Deadline to set Formatting Appointment (Required for 402 only) • Appointments to be scheduled between April 15th and May 10th

UNIV401 & 402 Spring Schedule (Cont.) • APRIL 19 • UNIV 402 – Deadline to schedule Defense Date (Required for 402 only) • UNIV 402 – First Complete Draft due to thesis director (Required for 402 only) • MAY 17 • UNIV 401 – Progress Report Due via Email (Required for 401 only) • Outside Lecture Assignment Due (Required) • UNIV 402 – Deadline for Defense, talk with your entire committee prior to defense to set date to submit complete draft (Required for 402 only) • MAY 30 • UNIV 402 – Final Copy Submission by noon to URP (Required for 402 only)

Group Presentations • Group presentations will help you develop the ability to explain your specialized work to others outside of your field. • You will: • Make a short presentation explaining your research and findings to your group. • Ask questions of other presenters in your group. • Fill out a evaluation form for each presentation. • As soon as you have confirmed your group meeting time/place, have someone in your group email Adam so he can make a schedule.

  7. Outside Lecture Assignment • OPTION #1 • Attend another group’s presentation (NOT your own). Have the Third Reader present confirm your attendance to Adam to receive credit. • OPTION #2 • Attend an academic lecture on campus and write a 500 word analysis. More information can be found in the Senior Thesis Handbook. • SUBMISSION • Option #1 & #2 are both due May 17. Submissions can be emailed to Adam Grimes at agrimes@udel.edu

  8. Formatting Appointment • This is different than the thesis formatting session • Schedule this through the appointment link on our website • Bring the most recent draft of your thesis in a word document – either on a flash drive or emailed to Adam • Schedule between April 15th and May 10th • Schedule early – spots fill up

  9. Thesis Defense • Your thesis defenses need to be scheduled by April 19th • Your defense should take place between April 19th and May 17th • The complete draft of thesis should be sent to entire committee two weeks prior to defense • Come talk with us if you have any questions or concerns

  10. Phi Kappa Phi Essay Competition • Submit your thesis. You wrote it anyway. • You could win.

  11. Advice: Two Big Points • Use a citation manager! Mendeley, Zotero, Refworks are your friends. • Don’t panic. Practice self-care. Reach out for help if you get overwhelmed. This is hard for everyone – they’re just hiding it well.
