  1. Welcome to Grade Six LogosMrs. Russell Meet the Teacher Night September 13, 2012 6:30pm-7:30pm

  2. My Philosophy • I have the highest of expectations for each and every one of my students. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work, I will ensure that my students will rise to the occasion. • I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. • I believe that I owe it to my students, as well as the community, to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to my job in the hope that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in the children as well.

  3. You Can Help! • I will be expecting all work assigned in class to be completed. Of course, all children do not work at the same pace. Some children will get their work done in class and some will not. If your child does not complete an assignment in class, he or she will be required to complete it at home. The way you can help is to ask your child every school day if schoolwork needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignment. I want to work as a team to ensure that your child becomes an independent lifelong learner. • Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. Please check the agenda every evening (and I will check it every morning), as the agenda is a great tool of communication between school and home. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at (780) 467-5591 or tracy.russell@eips.ca if you have any questions or concerns during the year.

  4. Teacher E-Page • I am encouraging parents and students to use the internet to visit my teacher e-page for weekly spelling words, bible verses, and other important information. You will also be able to view pictures of your child too! Please visit the Brentwood Website to view the school’s monthly newsletter and my teacher e-page: http://brentwoodelementary.ca

  7. Assessment “ Success is a journey not a destination. ”(Ben Sweetland) Assessment comes in many forms: journals, presentations, work samples, portfolios, checklists, self assessments, anecdotal notes (observations), and formal tests Report cards will be issued at the end of each term.

  8. Team Work • We are a team!!! Please feel free to communicate with me or to formalize a meeting time to discuss your child’s learning. • Agenda books • Notes • Please don’t hesitate to contact me at (780) 467-5591 or tracy.russell@eips.ca if you have any questions or concerns during the year.

  9. Something to think about… • “ All great achievements require time.” • “ Great discoveries and achievements invariably involve the co-operation of many minds.” • “ Small opportunities are the beginning of great enterprises.” • “ No problem can withstand the power of sustained creative thought.” • “Enthusiasm: a little thing that makes a big difference.”

  10. Thank you for… • Attending “Meet the Teacher” night • Giving me the opportunity to teach your child • Helping me create a learning environment that best suits your child Before you leave… • Explore the classroom • Any Questions?
