  1. Barnyard Blunders

  2. Luke 12:16-21 Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’

  3. Luke 12:16-21 Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’

  4. Luke 12:16-21 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life (soul) is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”

  5. The Barnyard in Context • This section of the text speaks to vigilance: Not Worrying, but Being Ready, Watchful, and Prepared • The particular focus for this preparation in our text should be selflessness, rid of possessions, and guarding against greed. (Luke 12:15)

  6. Barnyard Word Study • εὐφορέω – To Produce Abundantly To be fruitful, to bear or bring forth well or plenty. - The Land Produces Abundantly • καθελῶ - To Pull Down Also Translated as to tear down or to take down. - The Fool Pulls Down his Barns.

  7. The Blundering Fool • The fool does not take into account God’s plans. Rather he reflects his own greed. • What is at stake, is what our practices with regard to “things” proclaims about our understanding of God & God’s Plans.

  8. Whose will they be? ”’This very night your soul is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’” “How did you employ your soul? . . . Did you employ your memory in treasuring up what would be for my glory, your salvation, & the advantage of others?” ~ John Wesley
