  2. What is Gigabit Ethernet • Gigabit Ethernet is an extension to the 10 and 100 Mbps IEEE 802.3 standards. • Gigabit Ethernet is a connectionless protocol that each Ethernet frame contains a destination address, and is routed through the network.

  5. GMII (continued) • The GMII is divided into three sublayers: - PCS (Physical Coding Sublayer) - PMA (Physical Medium Attachment) - PMD (Physical Medium Dependent)
