  4. Aims • To give the students the knowledge that salvation is a process. • To give the student the understanding that everyone must run out of the land of destruction to the save land. • That one must not be either Pliable or Obstinate in this journey to the save land. • That in times of trials and tribulations we must not turn our back from the save land. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  5. Introduction • Bunyan in his book ‘Pilgrim Progress’ pictured salvation as a journey that all true Christian have to pass through and making decision to flee from the land of destruction and seek for that glorious land which is heavenly. So in this lesson we shall be considering the beginning of Christian journey with Pliable and Obstinate and his immediate family. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  6. Lesson oneProcess of Salvation • Discovering: This is the first thing to do in the journey to the save land as Christian does by reading through the book which made him see himself as a sinner and he cried an endless cry and this leads to the next step which is the question he asked ‘What shall I do to be saved?’ • Make decision. • Run out: As Christian had done he ran out of the land of destruction, left all the enjoyment of life seeking for anther life, so we must also come out of the old life we are living and seek for the new life so that we can be saved. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  7. How * Meditating in the word of God. Psalm 1:2. • Praying time to time just as Christian does pray on his on even when no one joins him. • Living a holy life which is one of the things the author of the book ‘Pilgrim Progress’ is trying to convey to his readers. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  8. Lesson twoNo turning back • Many are like Obstinate and Pliable whereby some doesn’t want to hear i.e the word of God has no root in them so it cannot grow and some hears it but when there is a little problem as it happened to Pliable in the Slough of Despond they turned their back and can’t continue the journey. • Christian on his own said to his neighbours that ‘No, not I… because I have laid my hand to the plough’ so as we continue in this journey to the save land we must not turn back knowing fully well that there will help from above to deliver us from all problems that may rise against us as the help came Christian to take him out of the Slough of Despond. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  9. Moreover, so many things will want to send us back even as Christian’s immediate family had done thinking that he was mad and as the man ran they ran after him to bring him back to the land of destruction but he wouldn’t wait for anyone to make him turn back but instead he ran for his dear life. LESSON OUTLINE 1

  10. Conclusion • To conclude this part of the lesson, it is quite obvious that many Christians want good things of the kingdom as is being spoken to them but because they’ve not discovered themselves just as Christian through the book of life, they were not convinced about sin and so had no burden to carry, such is Pliable who turned back at the slough of despond and said to his friend Christian ‘May I get out again with my life you shall possess the brave country alone for me.’ so he went his way back to the city of destruction.
