This presentation provides an overview of the Lighting and Personal Appliance Audit, including the importance of conducting energy audits, methods for data collection and analysis, and strategies for developing energy-saving recommendations. It emphasizes energy efficiency and conservation, showcasing how non-renewable and renewable sources impact energy use. By understanding where energy comes from and who uses it, participants will gain insights into optimizing energy consumption in buildings. Recommendations generated from the audit will contribute to reducing energy costs and raising awareness about sustainable practices.

WHAT IS ENERGY? the ability to do work or make change
WHERE DOES ENERGY COME FROM? NON-RENEWABLE RENEWABLE
SO WHAT CAN WE DO? ENERGY EFFICIENCY ENERGY CONSERVATION reduce or eliminate energy use use technologies that require less energy for the same output
LIGHTING AND PERSONAL APPLIANCE AUDIT What is an Audit? Why do an Audit? Provide baseline information about how resources are being used Determine the amount of energy consumed by lights and appliances • An evaluation or survey? • A lighting audit is a survey of lighting use • An appliance audit is a survey of appliance use
GOALS OF THE AUDIT • Determine the percentage of your building’s electrical consumption that is used by lights • Determine the percentage of your building’s electrical consumption that is used by appliances • Identify areas for improvement • Raise awareness about energy consumption, conservation and efficiency!
RECOMMENDATIONS • Recommendations are based on observations and collected data • Students should be involved in the generation of recommendations • Recommendations should be shared with school administrators, staff and students • Estimate energy and monetary savings associated with recommendations, as well as associated costs
