  1. What Causes Dry Dog Paws and How to Treat Them Taking care of your dog’s paws is as essential as taking care of your own. Dogs don’t wear shoes like we do, so the condition of their paws may indicate the state of their health. After going outside and being exposed to different surfaces, as well as landing on different flooring, a dog’s paws can dry out and crack.

  2. Allergic reactions: Just like humans, dogs can suffer from environmental allergies. But with their bare paws in constant contact with allergens, they are more susceptible to the irritating effects of allergens than we are. This can lead to licking and chewing at their paws in an attempt to ease the itch, making their paws dry and flaky.

  3. Excessive licking: Some dogs lick their paws excessively, drying up the skin and causing cracks. Moisture can form between their toes, leading to yeast or bacterial infections.

  4. Dry air: • Rough surfaces: • When you walk your dog on non-smooth surfaces, such as sand, rocky terrain, or concrete sidewalks, the bottoms of their feet may get scraped and cracked. A heater works by reducing the moisture in the air. When this happens, the air becomes dry. Dry air can cause your dog’s paws to become dry and cracked. • Winter conditions: Winter elements such as snow, sleet, and ice can all contribute to dry dog paws. While your dog is undoubtedly happy to run around in the snow and play in the cold weather, it’s important to remember that all those elements can cause dryness by drying out the pads of their paws.
