Connective tissues include ligaments, retinaculum, joint capsules, bone, cartilage, fascia, and tendons. In some sports, nearly 50% of acute injuries involve either tendon or muscle.

    3. 3 The Physics of Sports Injury (continued) Muscle/fascia are thought to be injured by excessive tension during eccentric contractions. Tendons are strong; strains occur most often at the distal musculotendinous junction (MTJ). Musculotendinous strains are the most common soft tissue sports injuries.
