  1. HYPERBARIC CHAMBER • Visit Oxygen International • at • http://www.oxygeninternational.com.au/

  2. What is a Hyperbaric Chamber It is a steel vessel in which atmospheric pressure can be raised or lowered by air compressors. It is used to treat divers or pilots afflicted with aeroembolism (decompression sickness especially when caused by rapid ascent to high altitudes and resulting exposure to rapidly lowered air pressure). It is used to provide high-oxygen environments for certain medical treatments and operations.

  3. Hyperbaric Chambers • It is a sealable diving chamber, closed bell or dry bell - is a pressure vessel with hatches large enough for people to enter and exit. • A compressed breathing gas supply to raise the internal air pressure. • Such chambers provide a supply of oxygen for the user, and are usually called hyperbaric chambers whether used underwater or at the water surface or on land to produce underwater pressures.

  4. Types Of Chambers There are two types of Hyperbaric Chambers :- MONOPLACE CHAMBERS MULTIPLACE CHAMBERS DECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS RECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS

  5. MONOPLACE CHAMBERS Monoplace chambers are designed to treat a single person pressurized with 100% oxygen.

  6. MULTIPLACE CHAMBERS Multiplace chambers are designed to hold several people at one time and oxygen is delivered through a mask or a hood.

  7. DECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS It is a hyperbaric chamber used by surface-supplied divers to make their surface decompression stops.

  8. RECOMPRESSION CHAMBERS A hyperbaric chamber used to treat or prevent decompression sickness.

  9. How should patients prepare for treatment? • They should use only clean cotton clothing which is allowed in the chamber. • No cosmetics, perfumes, hair preparations, deodorants, wigs or jewellery is allowed in the chamber. • The technician should know if any medications, including non prescription drugs, are being taken by the patient. • The patients are advised not to take alcohol or carbonated drinks for four hours prior to treatment. • In most cases, patients should give up smoking and any other tobacco products during their treatment period, as they interfere with the body's ability to transport oxygen.
