  1. What's New in Pondicherry? – Oye Pondy Oye Pondy Puducherry itself is "heritage", as a town and as a conglomerate of different cultural influences. These influences find expression in its architecture and streetscapes, in its people and visitors, and in a subtle feeling which is peculiarty "Pondicherry". Pondicherry was discovered by Francois Martin (1634-1706) who later became the first Governor General of Pondicherry. Before this title, he was the commissioner of French East India Company which was then succeeded by Pierre Dulivier. The city got its independence on 16th August 1962 and is known as the Union Territory since 1963. The union territory of Pondicherry consists of Pondicherry, Mahe, Karaikal and Yanam. The most commonly celebrated festivals in Pondicherry are Pongal, International Yoga Festival, Maasi Magam, Mangani, Bastille Day and Fete De Pondicherry. Unlike Goa, Pondicherry is not seen as a place where you can spend your holidays or have the time of your life, but in reality, it is one of the best places in the country to spend your holidays.
