  3. Cover Letter – Artist’s Statement This presentation is an end result of all art projects I have completed, in my first year of Computer Art: Painting. My entire art collection is extremely diverse. I have including projects I have hand drew, digital art projects I have created from scratch with either images from the web or obtained through scanning/digital camera, and projects where I drew, scanned and then colored in Photoshop. At the closing gates of this course I have concluded that, I am more comfortable and enjoy working in Photoshop, than sketching/ drawing on a canvas; Photoshop gives me the ability to manipulate an image I may have in my head in a way I can’t using a pencil and color pencils, paint, markers etc.

  9. Shading Practice August 2006

  10. Project Information: The first element of art practiced in Mr. Parris’s class was shading. • Title: Shading Practice • Date: August 2006 This was my first sketch book entry. It’s basically me practicing the art of shading with a pencil light to dark.

  11. Notes - Comments I think out of all the elements of art that was learned in Computer Art: Painting, shading was the most difficult, for me. Viewer Comment

  12. Apple Shading Spring 2003

  13. Project Information: • Title: Apple Shading • Date: August 2006 This was the first art project I completed, after learning about the art of shading. I drew it from the top of my head. The subjected object in the artwork is the apple, everything else was basically to fill negative space. No Comment

  14. Faces August/ September 2006

  15. Project Information: • Title: Faces • Date: August/ September 2006 This piece was drawn as practice to a big personal expression project I later completed. The two bottom faces are observational sketches of examples that were on the board and the top picture is from the top of the head.

  16. Face Components August/ September 2006

  17. Project Information: • Title: Face Components • Date: August/ September 2006 Basically, a self-explanatory piece, where I was practicing eyes, noses, ears, and lips.

  18. Notes - Comments Personally, I like attempting to draw human faces , keyword attempting. There is so much detail in the human face and every portion of the face has it’s own details that must be drawn.

  19. Monochromatic Object March 2007

  20. Project Information: • Title: Monochromatic Object • Date March 2007 This drawing was made a day before I had a sketch- book check and I was sitting on my bed looking around for an object to draw, so that I could color it one color (Monochromatic). I looked down and there was my ipod, thus I decided to draw it. No Comment

  23. CD Layout P.1 January 2007

  24. Project Information: • Title: CD Layout P.1 • Date: January 2007 The assignment was to chose an artist between the 60s-80s. My artist was Betty Wright. The piece to the right shows how I pictured the cover. The words are basically me writing out why the cover should look like my drawing.

  25. Notes - Comments My assignment was to create images based on the musical sounds and words from the music my artist produced. Within the 5 of many songs I listened to, from Betty Wright, I noticed she had different female roles in her signing (mother, girlfriend, mistress and sister). Hence the reason why the title of my CD would be ‘The Many Faces of Womanhood’.

  26. CD Layout P.2 January 2007

  27. Project Information: • Title: CD Layout P.2 • Date: January 2007 The is the CD Plate design I had in mind for my Betty Wright assignment. The color scheme was different shades of green and blue (cool colors). I decided on cool colors because her music was R&B and Soul.

  28. Notes - Comments In the beginning of the assignment we were given a CD criteria; line, shape, color, pattern, balance and text. I used the curvature of the lines to show a sense of balance to separate two faces I would later use Photoshop to put in. The colors I used reflected her musical tone. The color had a pattern, along with the bottom silhouette of females where the text was embedded.

  33. Notes - Comments I initially started the drawing to be the project, but after looking at what I drew, I decided to do the project solely on Photoshop.

  50. Notes - Comments The social issue I chose was low self-esteem. The visual solution I drew was a person mentally looking in a mirror and picking out all negative thoughts she posses and throwing them away. The body was drawn by hand and later colored in Photoshop. The spiral of imagination behind the mirror was made from scratch using a tutorial and various effects. The words on the wall is the solution in a small paragraph. Viewer Comments
