  1. Talent21 Reducingwhat we use

  2. Proposal • As a student at the William Davies middle school i would like to reduce my ecological     foot print by...................... reducing what my family and I use.

  3. Water • Water • Why is water so important? Water is very important because ………………..water is needed to all living things, no living thing can survive without water. No one would be able to live without water supply. Water is all around us, in the air and in the ground. It is practically used for everything such as, drinking, to wash, to cook things, put out fires, to keep plants healthy, to provide habitats for animals, ect. When people throw their trash in water and just don’t care, it affects us and the world around us. What did earth do to us so bad that we have to hurt her? Pollution is hurting us very badly, many types of species our going extinct and dying out. We need to help those species in need. Referring back in science if we don’t make a change all animals goes extinct and soon we will too. • We also need to stop over using the resources that we have left because that could be another way we can all die. Wasting water is very bad. Did you know that an average person uses about 60-70 gallons of water per day? Now that is a lot of water. It ridicules how much water we use and a good majority of the water that is used per day is wasted.

  4. Electricity • Electricity • How is using too much electricity bad for our environment? It is bad because………….. most of the • electricity we use is from fossil fuels. Burning these fuels puts lots of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere which could be a cause for global warming. However, it is better that the fuels are to burned by the utility company as to having thousands of fires burning in your area/town. So electricity is clean, it’s just the method of getting it that causes environmental concern. Make sure you don't overuse it because in the future, it can cause a lot of damage in the environment.

  5. Gas • Gas • Gas is a nonrenewable fuel made from petroleum. It is the number one thing that is hurting our environment and is being wasted, and effecting us the most. Did you know the United States produces about 19 gallons of gasoline from every 42-gallon barrel of crude oil that is refined. Refined means to prepare. The rest of the barrel gets turned into other petroleum products like diesel fuel, heating oil, ect. Most gasoline is made from crude oil, and it is formed from the remains of plants and animals. these animals are what they call diatoms, which means that they live hundreds and millions of years ago.The remains of the animals/plant are covered with layers of sediment over time.Over the past millions of the years the organisms are mixed together, that make liquid hydrocarbons. • About 49 barrels of gasoline are produced in U.S. refineries from every 100 barrels of oil refined to make many of the petroleum products. Gasoline is delivered from oil refineries mainly through pipelines to an big distribution chain serving about 162,000 retail gasoline stations in the U.S.A.Today, gasoline is the fuel used by most passenger vehicles, and about 249 million vehicles that use gasoline, and they each travel over 12,000 miles per year. There are about 162,000 fueling stations, and nearly two-thirds of fuel used for transportation is in the form of gasoline. • Burning gasoline produces carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas.scientist know that green house gasses warm the planet.Gasoline is a flammable and is a toxic liquid. Its vapors are given off when it evaporates, and the substances produced when it is burned, which causes pollution.

  6. Scientific method Experiment • What can i do to help? • Follow The Scientific Method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Ask a Question- • do background research • Construct a Hypothesis • Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment • Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion • Communicate Your Results • what can i do for the experiment? for my water reduction experiment is i am going to have a list of the family member in my household and have them put a tally mark next to their name every time they flush the toilet. One flush= 1 gallon of water and compare the data, also i am going to stop the water up and get in the shower and see how much water i waste. For the electricity part i am just going to shut or unplug things i don't need to use. Last, for the gas part I will try not to go too many places in car maybe ride bikes once in a while.

  8. Pollution vs. Health • Health part of project: • Why does pollution effect our health? Pollution can effect our bodies in many ways with either long- term/ short- term effects. different groups of people suffer from pollution in different ways . For example

  9. SocialStudies • Social Studies • who: My Family • what: how much water, electricity, gas we use and how we can reduce it. • when: Every week until the the project is due • where: thought my home • why: to improve our environment • How was the Earth different from back then up until now? Well there is a huge difference from back then and now. Early man hardly new how to pollute, the only time they really did pollute was when they used fire. Today pollution is the worst thing that has ever happened to us human beings. It has effected our environment badly. Early man used mostly all natural resources for everything such as.............. medicine, eating, clothes, shelter, ect. Now and days we use the new technology, which is the worst for the environment and our health, but it is good for us. We still use natural resources today but we don't use them as often. Today we use factories and we sometimes over use our resources we have left to survive. Maybe we can make a change a do something helpful for the Earth. Lets actually do something good.
