Who appoints the Governors? • The Governing Body is appointed by the various ‘stakeholder’ groups shown on the previous slide in the school, in the majority associated with the School’s Anglican Church foundation and ethos: • Two are nominated by the London Diocesan Board of Schools • Two are nominated by Chelsea Deanery • Two are nominated by the St Cuthbert’s Parochial Church Council • Two are nominated ‘Foundation Parents’ • The Priest of St Cuthbert’s Church is automatically a Governor • Two are elected by parents • Two are nominated by RBK&C • Two are elected by staff • The Headteacher is automatically a Governor

What is the Role of Governors? • Unpaid volunteers (except staff governors – but they are giving up their time too) • Appoint the Headteacher, who reports and is answerable to them for his performance and actions, and employ all staff in school • Provide critical challenge of the Headteacher’s management of the school • Review and approve policies, targets and plans • Provide advice and support for the Headteacher and school in its development • Ensure the School remains mindful of its Christian foundation and ethos

Role of Ofsted, LDBS, RBK&C • These three outside bodies are key to the school in setting expected standards of teaching, academic achievement and effective use of public money for education • Last Ofsted Inspection: December 2012, ‘Requires Improvement’. • Next Inspection due within 6 months; school must be rated ‘Good’ or better • LDBS and RBK&C provide through Advisors expert support in raising school standards • School buys various services, such as Payroll, HR, Head Teacher Performance Management, from the LDBS and RBK&C • Our school is very fortunate in the excellent quality of the support it receives from two of England’s most admired education authorities, LDBS and RBK&C.

  7. School Finances • All funding for the school comes from taxpayers, channelled through RBK&C for operating costs and LDBS for capital works • The school receives money based on pupil numbers and additional money to support teaching of children with Special Education Needs and based on social deprivation (the Pupil Premium Grant) • Total funding in 2013-4 is £1.4 million, or about £6,448 per child (compared to £6,256 London median and £4,329 national median)
