  1. What sort of person are you? Put numbers 1-11 in your jotter and answering the following questions with a yes, no or maybe.

  2. So Wonderful!!!

  3. Aim today: • We are looking at why religions exist and to think about what the important questions in life are.

  4. Have you ever wondered whyreligions exist? • There must be a reason! There are many religions’ today and as far as we know, there have always been religious beliefs and practices as long as the human race has existed.

  5. Even the most ancient human beings asked religious questions. It would seem that there is something about the human species that inevitably ends up asking religious questions!

  6. Since the beginning of time people have always wondered about the world in which we live. • Even the earliest cavemen and women wondered why they were here. As people have learned more about the world their answers to some of their questions have changed.

  7. A religion is rather like a map. • People use maps to find directions and help them to find their way about. If someone is using a map to find their way, the map will help when they have to make choices about which way to turn.

  9. How it should be… • Religions exist because they provide answers to questionspeople have always asked about life, and the world. Religious questions are those to which no one can be absolutely sureof the correct answer. Answers to religious questions are called beliefs, and trusting these answers without proof is called faith.

  10. An alien has landed on the rugby pitch at Graeme High!!! And it has the answers to any question that you wish to ask. In your jotter make a list of all the questions you might like to ask! • Try to think of questions that would be important to ALLhuman beings.

  11. Questions we would like to ask
