Making Connections • When readers connect things they read about to their own life it is called a text-to-self connection. • Making text-to-self connections can help a reader better understand what they read • When readers connect a text to their own experience they get involved in their reading and the text becomes more meaningful to them.

  3. Making Connections • Good readers know that they need to stay focused on how their experiences connect to the text and not be distracted by thinking about unrelated experiences.
