Dietary Guidelines for Americans says… • “Consume more of certain foods and nutrients such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and seafood.” • “Consume fewer foods with sodium (salt), saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, added sugars and refined grains.” (U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 2012.
How Can YOU Eat Healthier? • Consume more fresh foods; such as: • Fruits • Vegetables • Lean meats • Like chicken • Whole grains • 100% whole-wheat or whole-grain bread • Brown rice • Low-fat or non-fat dairy products • Use olive oil, canola or vegetable oil instead of animal fat when cooking. • Reduce the amount of processed foods you eat; such as: • Chips • Refined grains • White bread • White rice • Sugary cereals
