  1. Detection Integration Time (DIT) Comments by Lucia Abbo The total METIS instrument throughput is derived from the following component level efficiencies: METIS – 3rd Science and Technical Meeting, 15-17 October 2013

  2. ExpectedCount Rate For the Visible Light channel, we consider the counts in phs-1 pxl-1 given in Table 2 of the Document by Romoli (date: 17 December 2012) multiplied by the estimated Detector Efficiency of 0.4, in the case without IOM and in the unvignetting region (equatorial part for the vignetting function). For the UV channel, we consider the counts in ph s-1 pxl-1 given in Table 6 of the Document by Romoli (date: 17 December 2012) multiplied by the estimated Detector Efficiency of 0.15, which already includes the factor 0.7 of the window transmittivity.

  3. S/N evaluation (VL channel) The error estimation includes the terms of read-out noise R, dark current D=d*t, stray light S=s*t, and poissonian noise sqrt(*t). The estimated signal to noise ratios are the following: with t= DIT (Detector Integration Time), CRK+F count rate of 1 image K+F, S=CRK+F *t (quite strong assumption), R=51 e-, d=20e-, p (Polarization percentage) by Allen, 2000. N.B.VL: the stray light estimation is assumed equal to the signal counts. N.B. VL: with DIT=30s the streamer is saturated at 1.8° @0.28 AU and 0.30 AU (saturated  > 2/3 full well of the detector , ~ 50.000 e-)

  4. S/N evaluation (UV channel) The error estimation includes only the term of poissonian noise, sqrt(*t). N.B. UV: with DIT=120s in coronal hole: S/N<10 for heights >2° with binning 2x2, @0.28 AU, @0.30AU S/N<5 for heights >2.5° with binning 2x2, @0.30AU
