Basic Principles • Single point of command • Some one is in charge at each level and each person reports to only one supervisor. • Manageable span of control • For any supervisor is 3 to 7 people, 5 being the optimum. • Modular organization • Can expand or contract at any time in response to changing conditions • Common terminology • Plain English; no codes; careful of acronyms and abbreviations NERT Disaster Operations #2-ICS in the Staging Area 6
