  1. Union Communication Executive Commission of SCECBU Roda de Bara 2009

  2. Union communication The word is not just a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life. Don Miguel Ruiz

  3. Union communication Good communication means that your message will be sent and that the people or organizations understand the message in its entirety.

  4. Union communication There is no doubt that trade unions are as necessary today as they have ever been. Can the central bank employees afford to join? The reality is that they cannot afford not to join.

  5. Union communication Do the central trade unions communiate with the members and the employees efficiently? Are we atrractive to the young employees? Do the newly employed know about us?

  6. Who answered the trade union communication survey • FALBI –CONFSAL Italy • FO France • CGT France • FNV Holland • TU-CNB Czechs • BoFSU Finland • SIBC Italy • KZZ Poland • BBTK-SETCa Belgium • CNEBelgium • AZZ Poland • NSZZ Solidarity Poland • Staff Board Lithuania • SBSI Portugal • UHBC Malta • GPA-djp Austria Thank you for Your response !!!

  7. Union communication The SCECBU believes thatit is important to have good communication between: • the leaders and the members, • the unions and the employees not-members, • the unions and newly employed, • the unions and young employees, • unions and managment.

  8. Union communication - survey How do trade unions communicate with the members? • All of the unions who answered the survey use different ways of communication – paper forms, e-mails, intranet, phone calls, meetings. • Some of the unions have their own website – Belgium, Holland, Italy, Malta (being constructed) and France. • Nearly all of the trade unions use the internal bank intranet and have its own pages there – Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Belgium, France (just recently). • Wall information boards are used but they seem to be less and less effective. • Paper forms of communication are still in often use, some of trade unions have the periodics (Poland, Austria, Italy), some issue a kind of a newspaper (Italy). • All the responders state that they contact with the members as often as it is necessary, at least a few times of the year. • There are no limits in sending e-mails. It can be said that the internal union communication is sufficient.

  9. Union communication Trade Unions and Young People Trade union life can be fun, as well as providingassistance when required. It isparticularly important for young people to join a union because they are frequently the most exploited particularly regarding pay, bullying, contracts and job security.

  10. Union communication Do we do enough to encourage not members and particularly newly employed to become a member? Do we tell them that: • legal advice is available to trade union members, • collective and individual representation on pay, health, safety and many other issues are provided by trade unions, • many unions have a vast range of financial and other facilities available to their members, • unionised workers are less likely to lose their jobs than those in non-unionised workplaces and if this does happen, they receive better compensation.

  11. Union communication • We - the unionists of the national central banks - should work together to shape and create the better future house for ourselves, our friends and and for those who will come after us. • Good and efficient communication is the key to this house.
