  3. Bell Work Monday: In your notebook, please copy this chart completely and accurately. You will be responsible for this information and will need it to complete future bell work and the quiz on Friday!

  8. What is a microtheme? • Brief essay that is very specific • The MICROTHEME, a brief essay limited to one side of a 5" x 8" index card, is an ideal instrument for painlessly increasing the written content of a course. Brief, and thus easily graded, it is educationally sound, for a great deal of thinking must precede the writing.

  9. 1st Sentence • Restate the question or prompt, include a thesis statement (your opinion, feeling), the TAG (Title, Author, Genre) and include the 3 details you will be discussing. • This might be a long sentence – so watch your sentence structure to make sure you don’t use run-on sentences!

  10. 2nd Sentence • Address the first point (detail) you introduced in your thesis statement.

  11. 3rd Sentence • Provide evidence from the text (cite an example) that supports your statement from the 2nd sentence • Describe evidence (background to quote), give quote and page number.

  12. 4th Sentence • Analysis of your example provided in the 3rd sentence. • Explain how or why your example answers the prompt.

  13. 5th Sentence • Address the second point (detail) you introduced in your thesis statement.

  14. 6th Sentence • Provide evidence from the text (cite an example) that supports your statement from the 5th sentence (2nd detail). • Describe evidence (background to quote), give quote and page number.

  15. 7th Sentence • Analysis of your example provided in the 6th sentence. • Explain how or why your example answers the prompt

  16. 8th Sentence • Address the third point (detail) you introduced in your thesis statement.

  17. 9th Sentence • Provide evidence from the text (cite an example) that supports your statement from the 8th sentence. • Describe evidence (background to quote), give quote and page number.

  18. 10th Sentence • Analysis of your example provided in the 9th sentence. • Explain how or why your example answers the prompt.

  19. 11th and 12th Sentence • This is your conclusion sentence(s) that restates the thesis and wraps up the piece with a nice bow! • Your entire microtheme will be 11 - 12 sentences total!

Your Turn: Rough Draft You are going to create a micro theme: • Micro theme: Write an argument where you persuade the readers to agree with your claim about how America is shaped by the various people who inhabit it (indigenous or immigrant)? • Make sure to follow the correct format from your notes and rubric • What sources are you using? • What will your Works Cited Page include? • Tomorrow we will type the final draft and upload to Turnitin.com in Lab 613.
