  8. Three hospitals with relatively high occupancy were selected The coordinators were appointed in hospitals, who were trained at the NCDC (Georgia) Infection Control TOT workshops. Our Achievements through Partnership Support:

Hospital coordinators provide the following support: Organize regular meetings with hospital administration Organize seminars for hospital personnel to educate them in new definitions and guidelines for SSI and preventive use of antibiotics Organize Infection Control Committees at the hospitals Our Achievements through Partnership Support:

Data collection forms are developed for SSI prevalence and incidence study in accordance with standard definitions of SSI cases Nurses performing dressings are involved in epidemiological data collection process; they have to record detected infection signs in special forms.   11. Collected data are sent for analysis to the NCDC-Georgia First data on SSI prevalence were presented at Society of Hospital Epidemiology of USA (SHEA) annual conference Our Achievements through Partnership Support:

Part of the manual «Basics of Infection Control» has been translated into Georgian and approved as methodological guideline by the order of Georgian Minister of Health Guidelines for adequate use of antibiotics for SSI prevention are included into the state «standard care package» , which determines operation costs decrease unjustified costs SSI incidence and prevalence study is included in State Epidemiological Surveillance Program personnel is interested to be involved in study and get financial support through participation.
