Definition: • Biomimetic designs refer to man-made processes, devices, substances or systems which imitate nature to develop new devices that enhance human life. • Through the help of biomimetic systems, scientists, researchers, engineers, and business people have increasingly turned towards nature for design and inspiration. What is meant by biomimetic designs?

  4. The fastest train in the world • 200 miles/hour= the maximum speed measured • Located: West of Japan (Shinkansen) • Introduced in the early 1960’s (1964) • Considered the most reliable high-speed train in the world! why? Shinkansen Bullet Train

  5. Problems associated with the bullet train • Every-time the train came out of any tunnel, it was produce an extremely irritating emphatic bang! How does this happen? • The change in air pressure! It has been estimated that resident that are one-quarter a mile way could hear the noise Noise! Complain? Solution?

  6. Kingfisher Something awkward: Whenever a kingfisher dives from air into water, the result is a negligible amount of water splash, how come that is possible? What is the secret beyond that? Kingfishers are a group of small to medium sized brightly colored birds. large heads, (long, sharp, pointed bills) short legs Stubby tails Is there any hints? Wondered EijiNakatsu

  7. What is the solution? They redesigned the front end of the train using the beak of a kingfisher as a model. They found out the kingfisher secret move! Answer: The long Beak More comfortable Quieter train Uses less energy Balancing the air pressure Move faster

  8. Conclusion Nature answers! Lots of human-beings tremendous designs are inspired by nature.
