Discipline Referrals 1st referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Counsel the student • Contact parent and inform parent • Student writes discipline letter #1 2nd referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Counsel the student • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Student writes discipline letter #2 • Student performs community service 3rd referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Counsel the student • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Student writes discipline letter #3 • Student spends ONE day in I.S.S.

  4. Discipline Referrals 4th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Schedule a parent conference. The legal guardian HAS to come after school for the conference. • Student will remain in I.S.S. until parent shows up for the conference. If the parent does not show up for the conference in 3 days, the student will be given an overnight suspension. • Parent should sign all three letters the student has written and informed of next steps. Parent should also be told about the counseling opportunities the student has • Behavior contract is completed 5th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Student writes discipline letter #4 • Student is assigned 3 days of I.S.S.

Discipline Referrals 6th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Student begins MANDATORY weekly meetings with assigned mentor/counselor/psychologist/etc. • Student is assigned to ONE day of out-of-school suspension OR parent can attend school with the student for an entire day. 7th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Check weekly meeting progress • Student receives a TWO- DAY suspension OR the parent can come to school with the student for TWO days.

Discipline Referrals 8th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Student receives a THREE- DAY suspension OR the parent can come to school with the student for THREE days. 9th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Check weekly meeting progress • Student receives a FIVE- DAY suspension. 10th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Check weekly meeting progress • Student receives a SEVEN- DAY suspension.

Discipline Referrals 11th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Contact the parent and inform the parent • Check weekly meeting progress • Student receives a NINE- DAY suspension. 12th referral-Investigate the referral to ensure that progressive steps were followed: If the referral is valid: • Expel the student

Late/Tardy Students • Students who are not in their seat when tardy bell rings will be considered tardy and subject to progressive discipline steps for tardy students. • All students arriving after 8:30 am should report to Student Support with a parent to be signed in. • All students in the hall after the 8:30 tardy bell rings must report to the tardy room. • Students arriving after 8:30am without a parent will be subject to the progressive steps for tardy students • When a student receives their 3rd tardy, it will be treated as a referral.

  9. BTW Non-Negotiables • See administrator immediately for the following infractions: • Drugs • Alcohol • Weapons • Threats against teacher/or physical assault resulting in serious bodily injury/verbal assault • Bully & Intimidation (or violating the stay away agreement) • Sexual Assault • Gang related fights and other activity • Inappropriate use of electronic media • Refusing punishment • Student has STARTED (hit first) a fight for the FOURTH time

Teacher Supports • Teachers buzz the office when they complete a referral to alert discipline team to check for the referral. • Students who are written up will be pulled as soon as the referral comes through. Students will be addressed by a member of the discipline team. • Students will be escorted from class to the restroom when Mrs. Black or main office staff calls. • Students will be escorted from class to the main office/Student Support if they are called. • Additional personnel will be present in the hallways for maximum support during transitions.

Student Supports • If a teacher submits a referral on a SPED student and states that the student is not SPED, the referral will be thrown out, and the teacher will be issued a reprimand for violating school policy concerning SPED students. • Reporting the names of teachers who are leaving students in the hall for step 2 longer than a minute to Mrs. Black. • Reporting the names of teachers who allow students to leave class without buzzing the office to Mrs. Black. • Reporting the names of teachers who allow students to enter class without an admit to Mrs. Black. • Reporting the names of teachers who are not standing at their doors between classes to Mrs. Black.

  13. Other Supports • Frequent culture checks from ILT and discipline team members, colleagues, and administration to gauge effectiveness of teacher supports. • Frequent classroom environment checks from ILT and discipline team members, colleagues, and administration to gauge effectiveness of student supports. • Revisiting and adjusting system as needed to meet the needs of students and teachers.

  14. Celebrations For students who meet discipline expectations, celebrations and incentives will be provided periodically to ensure student accomplishments in discipline are recognized.
