  7. Planning Process • Don’t be too ambitious • Have options • Utilize aides and assistants • Get to know the students - Planning Meeting - Observations • Ask questions and utilize your resources

  8. possible questions to ask while planning Planning Process • How do the children address the teacher?         • Where do children gather for whole group meetings?         • How do children sit during group time? Assigned places? In a circle?  • What behavior management strategies do you use?   • Do any of the students use augmentative communication or assistive technology?  • Do any of the students have assistants, how should I best involve them?  • What else would be helpful to know about an individual student or the class as a whole to plan my residency?      • Suggestions for communication with parents or opportunities for parents to observe/participate • What else do I need to know to be successful with this student/group?

Aides & Caregivers • Ask about the role of aides in your planning session • Discuss what your expectations of the aid are prior to the lesson • The aids are a valuable resource for understanding the student – value their contributions • Have regular check ins with the aid – if there are problems then talk to the aid or the classroom teacher Positive Working Relationship
