  4. ERCIM is a consortium of leading research institutions from 18 Europeancountriescommitted to information technology and applied mathematics. Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation

  5. ERCIM Grid related projects • CoreGRID • The European Research Network on Foundations, Software Infrastructures and Applications for large scale distributed, GRID and Peer-to-Peer Technologies • Network of excellence • EC Grid Technologies programme (Unit F2) • Diligent • A digital libray insfrastructure on grid enable technology • Integrated project • EC Research Infrastructure programme (Unit F3) • Grid@Asia • Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation • Specific support action • EC Grid Technologies programme (Unit F2) Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation

  6. Need for more international exchanges • Grid results in FP5 • Datagrid • Unicore... • But still little impact world wide • EU is increasing its support (125 M€ ) under FP6 • Barriers • US will unfortunately not choose EU technologies • Other countries may adopt US techno even if not yet fully mature e.i. Globus has several drawbacks that Unicore does not have. • So we need • More efforts to promote, share and built on these European technologies Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation

  7. What do we want ? • Goal • Foster collaboration in Grid research and technologies between the European Union and at least two Asian countries: China and South Korea • 3 steps • Mapping of Chinese and South Korea key Grid players • Grid focused workshops on research and industrial agendas • Dissemination and sustainability through participation in joint projects • Results • Initiate future co-operation between European research and industry grid communities and Asian grid communities • Validate capacities and extend sustainable co-operation with leading Grid actors in Asia Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation

  8. How to make this happen ? • Workshops agenda will include at least • the identification of European and Asian research priorities • presentations and discussions on three main R&D domains • Grid middleware • Grid applications • Tools and environment programming • an overview of potential funding opportunities (FP6 - Call 5...) • an introduction to EC regulations • Project preparation and management • Intellectual property rights • a Networking session • Presentation of proposals under preparation • Focussed discussions between proposers • Web site to disseminate expression of interest Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation
