  1. Personality structures described by Freud Id Ego Superego Task 1 Describe in your own words the meaning of each of the above structures

  2. What is meant by Personality? • Characteristic or feature of a person’s character, that is relatively permanent, and may be related to behaviour. A reasonable stable pattern of behaviour including thoughts and emotions that distinguish people from one another.

  3. Research relevant to the study of Personality • Freud (1909) Little Hans (Page 16) • Eysenck(1947) 700 Soldiers • Kline and Storey (1977) anal-retentive character • Pederson, Plomin, McClearn and Friberg (1988) twin study • Neuroticism and extraversion Adornoet al (1950) Authoritarian Personality. Include researcher’s name, the procedure, results, conclusion, strengths/weaknesses.

  4. What does Eysenck mean by Introversion and Extroversion Introversion Is a personality dimension that sees the individual inclined towards a quiet, solitary and reflective lifestyle. Eysenck would argue that they are individuals who do not get bored easily and can sustain attention over tasks for long periods of time.

  5. Extroversion Is a personality dimension where individuals are outward directed and highly sociable in their behaviour. Eysenck sees these people are being impulsive and lacking the sustained task orientation of the introvert.

  6. Types of personality test • The Rorschach Inkblot Test 10 cards each with symmetrical shapes resembling an ink blot; five of which are in colour and five in black and white are given to participants. The participant must then describe what they see in each card. However, the concept behind the test is that everything that an individual does in an ambiguous situation will reveal something important about their personality. Based on psychodynamic principle that these descriptions are coming from the unconscious mind.

  7. The Thematic Apperception Testhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-IO3eQ-0sI 20 pictures given to participant. They are asked to construct a story for each picture which describes what is happening. The idea is that the individuals will identify with the people in each picture and as a result men are given pictures mostly of men, women mostly of women, girls mostly girls, etc. People tend to link their stories to recent events in their own lives.
