Semester Projects • Every chapter, they add to the locations and what they visit • Once they have all locations and pieces they can make a tour • Place tour file on line for peer review in your wiki or blog. • Present the tour in class for 3-5 minutes in groups and have students discuss on the discussion forum in your wiki.
In Groups • Find a location of interest • You are looking for a place to live during your study abroad experience. You have three days. Include the following: • Activities for fun (seeing a movie, visiting a landmark, where you will eat, etc..) • Path for walking from one location to another for one of the days • Why did you pick that location? • Find housing for you and some roommates.
WIKIS and BLOGS • Difference? • When would you pick one over another? • Benefits of students working in groups or individually? • Depends on goals!
Blogs: Blogger.com • Students work individually, but others can comment on the work. • Assessment is easier! • Feedback is more precise! • You can mix the use of Blogs and Wikis to benefit students who work better alone.
Wikis • Group work is essential. Students help each other. • Easier for peer review since there are not so many sites • All in one location
Assessment • Use a Rubrics (sample provided) • Peer Feedback • Presentation of Wiki or blog in the classroom • Emphasize improvement! • Push the positive during the process! • Give plenty of room for creativity
Getting it together • Pick either Wiki or Blog • Start with baby steps • Use the themes of the chapters of the text • Each chapter will build the wiki or blog • Introduce a new tech or step each week in the classroom
