ABRAMS TanksM1, M1A1, M1A2 • Armament • Main gun: 105 mm on M1, 120 mm on M1A1, M1A2 • 7.62mm Coaxial Machine Gun • 7.62mm or .50 caliber machine gun over turret hatches • Noise sources: chordal action, armament, AFES, smoke grenade launchers • Exposure conditions: • Hatches open , commander’s head outside (exposed Cmdr) • Hatches closed, crew inside • Training evaluator sitting on top of turret

ABRAMS TanksM1, M1A1, M1A2 • HPD • All 4 crewmembers wear CVC / DH132 • Steady-State Noise • 85 - 100 dBA Stationary • 96 - 117 dBA While moving 10 to 40 mph • Can reach exposure limits in: • 16 minutes with DH-132 • 174 minutes with DH-132 and earplugs • Double protection recommended if traveling more than 10 miles in 24 hours • Impulse Noise: • Moderate impulse noise from machine guns, AFES, Smoke Grenades, Main gun if crew inside and driver’s hatch is closed

  4. ABRAMS TanksM1, M1A1, M1A2 • Severe exposure from certain main gun cartridges for exposed CDR, Evaluator position • Limited to a few rounds per day • Exposure not allowed if: Driver’s hatch is open for any firing, certain cartridges for exposed Cmdr and evaluator
