  1. District Council UpdateTown & Parish Forum 2017Introduction to Mark StoneActing Chief Executive

Unitary • Better Oxfordshire • joint proposal for a single council for Oxfordshire submitted to government on 23 March 2017 (with Vale and Oxfordshire County Council) • replace existing six councils with a single council for Oxfordshire • government decision later this year • Oxford City, Cherwell and West Oxfordshire submitted an alternative proposal in June - we are currently reviewing their report

  3. Didcot Garden Town • proposed Delivery Plan out to consultation • includes new roads, housing, shops, leisure facilities and schools needed to support 16,000 new homes • final plan published in the autumn • 10,000 homes have already received planning permission • further consultation on individual elements of the delivery plan

  4. Didcot Orchard Centre phase 2 • work on £50 million Phase 2 underway • due to open in spring 2018 with: • up to 30 new retail units, cafes and restaurants • Inc. M&S Food Hall, H&M, River Island, TK Maxx, Costa Coffee and Starbucks • additional 191 car parking spaces • public toilets • public spaces

  5. Berinsfield Community Investment Scheme • plans being developed through direct engagement with residents on what they’d like to see in their community v number new homes required • resident priorities to date: • maintain existing green spaces/ environmental improvements • new all-through school (4-16 yrs) • new community hub • car parking provision for residents • good range of housing • updated sports and leisure facilities

  6. Planning • Local Plan South - we received over 7,500 comments on the South Local Plan (Second Preferred Options document) • we expect to submit the final version for independent examination by the end of this year • 39 neighbourhood plans currently approved or underway • more in the planning update later

  7. Housing Housing/Homelessness • prevention work resulted in a fall in the number of homeless households • we are delivering more affordable homes • our draft Housing Strategy will ensure we provide homes to meet need over the next 10 years – more on this later
